Camiel Eurlings

Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management

Camiel Martinus Petrus Stephanus (Camiel) Eurlings was born in Valkenburg-Houthem on 16 September 1973.

After completing his secondary education he went on to study technological economics (business economics and marketing) at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where he was awarded a degree in engineering in 1998. As a student he participated in research projects sponsored by Canon Ing Baraki in Japan and by DSM Research in Geleen.

From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the Valkenburg a/d Geul municipal council for the Christian Democratic Alliance (CDA), after which he was elected to the House of Representatives of the States General. In 2004 he entered the European Parliament, where he led the CDA delegation.

Mr Eurlings has been vice-chair of the European People's Party (EPP), president of the Union of the Robert Schuman Institute and member of the board of the European Ideas Network. 

On 22 February 2007 Mr Eurlings was appointed Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management in the fourth Balkenende government.
