The Netherlands opens embassy in Kosovo

News item | 27-06-2008

The Cabinet has decided that the Netherlands will open an embassy in Pristina following Dutch recognition of Kosovo's independence on 4 March 2008.

Foreign minister Maxime Verhagen welcomes the new embassy. 'We're engaged in a number of operations aimed at maintaining stability in the young state. It's more efficient that we be represented at ambassadorial level,' he says.

Almost all the EU member states with missions in Pristina have already upgraded them to embassies - or they plan to do so soon.
