Balkenende pleased with US Afghanistan strategy

In a telephone call with Vice President Joseph Biden, Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende has welcomed the US government's plans for Afghanistan.

At President Obama's request, Vice President Biden has been briefing a number of partners on the United States' new Afghanistan strategy.
 
Prime Minister Balkenende welcomed the plans. He also updated Mr Biden on the current situation regarding the Dutch diplomatic, military and development contribution in Afghanistan.
 
Mr Biden expressed the hope that the Netherlands would remain in Afghanistan after 2010. Mr Balkenende said that the government had not yet taken a decision on the matter.
