Getting government finances in order

Bringing the government finances in order is and remains an absolute priority, which the Dutch government will maintain, both in the Netherlands as in Europe. That is the reason why the Netherlands assists in combating the debt crisis in Europe and makes an effort to enforce budgetary discipline. This government also takes necessary measures to bring Dutch government finances in order and to be able to pay for basic services in the future, such as health care and education. This involves large budget cuts and painful measures. However, doing nothing is not an option.
