'A consistent and firm approach – that is what we are aiming for during this term. Victims of crime will be better protected and perpetrators will be punished. As for asylum and immigration, I advocate a restrictive but fair policy, taking into account how much society can support.'
Fred Teeven was appointed State Secretary for Security and Justice and Minister for Migration in the Cabinet Rutte-Asscher on 5 November 2012.
What I am about
‘A consistent, swift approach is an absolute necessity. The piece de resistance of the criminal law system, the enforcement of sentences and measures, must function as well as possible. We will punish perpetrators quickly and give them a punishment that works. I will also work towards an effective customized approach of criminal youth and adolescents under adolescent criminal law and a stronger position for victims. I aim to give asylum seekers clarity as soon as possible, allowing them to focus on their future. That also implies an active and consistent repatriation policy.’
