"The next few years will see large reforms with which the Cabinet wishes to make the Netherlands stronger, financially, economically as well as socially. I will devote myself to sound government finances, a further regulation of the financial sector and a strong Europe."
What I am about
Sound Government Finances
As Minister of Finance I will continue to bring the treasury in order, in our own interest. I intend to work on sound government finances in a social way. Everybody will be asked to make sacrifices, but we will divide the burden fair and square. That is the way to keep our basic facilities affordable for future generations as well.
Sound Financial Sector
A sound financial sector is indispensable for the functioning of the economy. As Minister of Finance I will do my best for a further tackling of the sector. Enforcing rules that act in the client’s interest is part of it, as well as limiting the risks of financial institutions and legally moderating variable remunerations.
A Strong Europe
If Europe does well, the Netherlands does well. In the interest of the Netherlands I will commit myself in Europe that every country will take its responsibility: every country has to bring its budget in order and strengthen its economy. Support should go hand in hand with the efforts made by the countries to solve their problems.
