Refugees may be given asylum in the Netherlands if they face persecution in their own country on account of their race, religion, nationality or beliefs.
Immigrants who want to come to the Netherlands to work or study or to join family members, for instance, must satisfy a range of conditions. One example is that aliens who want to study in the Netherlands have to pay all the costs involved. Every application for a residence permit is assessed on its own merits.
