Bin Laden’s death a major blow to terrorism, says Rosenthal

Foreign minister Uri Rosenthal says that the death of Osama bin Laden has dealt a major blow to al Qa’ida and international terrorism. ‘It is nearly ten years since the attacks of 11 September 2001 shocked the world,’ he said. ‘Osama bin Laden had many followers. He was the symbol of international terrorism. Remember that there have also been attacks in London, Madrid, Mumbai and other places.’

‘It would have been better if Bin Laden had been captured alive and forced to answer for his deeds in a court of law,’ Mr Rosenthal went on. ‘Nevertheless, this is a historic event.’

‘Combating terrorism and violent extremism is a top priority worldwide. The elimination of Osama bin Laden will give fresh impetus to the fight against terrorism.’

‘The Dutch government will continue its efforts to bring terrorists to justice. It will also remain vigilant in protecting the security of Dutch people and Dutch interests abroad.’
