Culture binds Europe
On Monday 8 October, minister for European affairs Frans Timmermans met Serbian President Boris Tadic. They talked about the political importance of culture.
‘Culture is one of the most important instruments for bringing people together,' said Timmermans. President Tadic called on the Netherlands to help strengthen the intercultural dialogue, saying that culture is the bridge to European integration.
Earlier on the same day, Timmermans spoke to his Slovenian counterpart Janez Lenarcic on Slovenia's upcoming EU Presidency, the main theme of which will be European energy and climate policy. ‘Setting EU-wide goals for energy and climate will be the biggest challenge for the Slovenian Presidency,' said Timmermans. Timmermans and Lenarcic also talked about EU enlargement, in particular the possible accession of candidate member state Croatia and potential candidate Serbia.
