Multilateral departments
These departments provide the Dutch contribution to international, or multilateral, organisations and send Dutch representatives to them.
European Integration Department (DIE)
DIE seeks to ensure the consistency of Dutch policy on the European Union (EU). It also consults with the other ministries at official level to coordinate the Dutch contribution to decision-making in the EU.
DIE comprises:
- Internal Affairs Division (DIE/IN)
- External Affairs Division (DIE/EX)

Multilateral Organisations and Human Rights Department (DMM)
DMM is a policy theme department and a multilateral department. It is responsible for developing and coordinating Dutch foreign policy on human rights and on various international organisations. The department’s tasks relate to multilateral organisations and human rights, the UN, international financial institutions (IFIs) and international debt policy, as well as various international courts and tribunals. The Human Rights Ambassador works to bring more cohesion to Dutch human rights policy;
DMM comprises the following divisions:
- Social and Economic Affairs Division (DMM/SE),
- International Financial Institutions Division (DMM/IF)
- Human Rights and Political and Legal Affairs Division (DMM/MP)
