Please note that the maximum amount of fund available has been raised. An overall ceiling of €41 million applies to Migration and Development 2019-2022 grants for activities as referred to in article 2.5 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Grant Regulations 2006 that are awarded from the time this Order enters into force up to and including 31 December 2022, to be allocated as follows to the different types of activities:

  • for activities focusing on improving prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities: €35 million;
  • for activities focusing on migration management: €6 million.

All applicants have received a decision letter on January 18 to inform them about their score of the first stage of the selection process. Applicants who have been invited to submit a full proposal will be informed about the decision by March 15 at the latest.

Update deadlines

Please note that the date for notifying applicants whose application concerns improving prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities has been changed. Applicants will receive an invitation to submit a full proposal, or a notification that they have not passed the threshold on 18 January 2019 at the latest.

Please also note that the deadline for handing in the full proposal for activities concerning improving prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities has been changed! The new deadline is: 15 February 2019 23:59 CET at the latest. Please also note that this update only concerns applicants who pass the first stage and are invited to submit a full proposal.

Thirdly, please note that the deadline concerning the decision for timely submitted full proposals for improving prospects for refugees and host communities has been changes. A decision will be communicated on 15 March 2019 at the latest.

The Migration and Development Grant aims to provide support for priorities which are part of the integrated policy of the Netherlands on migration and refugees. Please note that changes have been made to the Migration and Development 2019-2020 Grant Policy Framework. For further information, please consider the amending act published below. (The amending act was uploaded on 2 November 2018).”

Apply for a Migration and Development Grant

Support for activities that focus on improving prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities in Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Uganda, Turkey, Iraq and Sudan. And support for activities that strengthen migration management and protection of the human rights of all people on the move, in Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan and Tunisia.

Not-for-profit organisations and companies (not for profit) can now apply for a Migration and Development Grant for projects as specified in the Grant Policy Framework. A total amount of €24 million is available for the period 2019-2022.

Deadline for submitting proposals

The selection process consists of two stages. In stage one, a concept note of no more than 2.500 words of length must be submitted, alongside the application form (including a threshold check) and a track record form. For applications focussing on improving prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities, the submission deadline for the threshold check, the track record and the concept note is 16 November 2018. For applications focusing on migration management, the deadline is 7 December 2018.

Applicants who have been selected on the basis of their concept note, application form and track record are invited to submit a full proposal in stage 2. Applicants whose application concerns improving prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities will be notified on 21 December at the latest whether they may or may not submit a full proposal; applicants whose application concerns migration management will be notified 18 January 2019 at the latest.
