What has been arranged after I have arrived in the Netherlands?

The aid that the Netherlands is providing is aimed at helping people in St Maarten. This applies to both emergency aid and reconstruction efforts. If you decide to travel to the Netherlands or remain in the Netherlands, you are responsible for supporting yourself financially during your stay there.

You are also responsible for arranging somewhere to stay, either with relatives or friends or elsewhere. Make arrangements before travelling to the Netherlands. Accommodation is scarce in many municipalities, so people in the Netherlands must make an active effort themselves to find a place to live.

Your first point of contact in the Netherlands is the municipality where you are living. After an intake meeting the municipality will decide whether you require support during your stay or for your return journey.

If you intend to stay in the Netherlands for more than four months you must register in the municipality where you are living. You will need to provide proof of deregistration from the authorities in St Maarten.

You can request proof of deregistration from the Population Affairs Department (‘Afdeling Burgerzaken’) in St Maarten. Send an email to burgerzakensxm@sintmaartengov.org.

If you have any questions about travel documents or want to request an emergency or regular travel document, please contact the Office of the Governor of St Maarten.
