Menno Snel began his career in 1995 as a policy officer at the Ministry of Finance. Until 2009 he was employed in various roles at the ministry, including Deputy Director-General for Tax and Customs Policy and Legislation. He then worked for two years as strategy and policy director at the pension provider APG Group.
From 2011 and 2016 Mr Snel served on the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on behalf of the Netherlands, representing the interests of the Netherlands and the countries in the Dutch constituency. In 2016 he became chair of the managing board of NWB Bank.
On 26 October 2017 Menno Snel was appointed State Secretary for Finance in the third Rutte government.
