Between 1990 and 2006 Paul Blokhuis worked as a policy officer for the Reformed Political Federation (RPF) / Christian Union in the House of Representatives. From 2006 he served almost continuously on the Apeldoorn municipal executive, where he was responsible for welfare, social care, health care, implementation of the Social Support Act, volunteer services and youth care.
On 26 October 2017 Paul Blokhuis was appointed State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport in the third Rutte government.
Party political positions and outside activities
Paul Blokhuis represented the Christian Union on the Gelderland Provincial Council from 2003 to 2006 and was a member of Apeldoorn municipal council immediately following the municipal elections in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
As a member of the Apeldoorn municipal executive, Paul Blokhuis filled many official posts, including sitting on various committees of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities and serving as vice-chair of the general and executive boards of North East Gelderland Municipal Health Service. He was also a member of the social pillar of the ‘G32’ urban network.
