Russian Civil Code completed with Matra funding
The Research Centre for Private Law of the Russian presidential administration in Moscow is holding a conference on 25-26 April 2007 to celebrate the completion of the new Russian Civil Code.
The project was coordinated by the Centre for International Legal Studies in Leiden and was funded under the Ministry’s Matra programme.
The Civil Code is the result of a long and fruitful partnership between the Research Centre and Dutch lawyers. The process of reforming the Civil Code in Russia began in 1991, even predating the collapse of the Soviet Union, which accelerated the process. Regular consultations took place between Dutch and Russian legal specialists on the reform of the Civil Code, which was modelled on the new Dutch Civil Code.
With the support of Matra funds, a significant contribution has been made to the development of the rule of law in Russia. President Putin congratulated everyone involved on their work.
