Netherlands completes Lisbon Treaty approval
The Dutch act of approval of the Treaty of Lisbon was submitted on 11 September to the depositary, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.
With this step, the process in the Netherlands of ratifying the Treaty – whose full name is the Treaty of Lisbon amending the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty establishing the European Community – is officially complete.
The Lisbon Treaty will not enter into force until all 27 EU member states have ratified it. Seventeen member states had already done so: Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and the United Kingdom. The Netherlands has now become the 18th state to ratify.
