Dutch ambassador recalled from Syria
On 7 February foreign minister Uri Rosenthal recalled the Dutch ambassador from Syria for consultations in The Hague. He also summoned the Syrian ambassador to explain the current situation in Syria. Mr Rosenthal discussed his decision during the parliamentary debate on the situation in the Arab region.
The rest of the diplomatic personnel stationed in Damascus will remain in place.
Dutch nationals in Syria are strongly advised to leave the country, even if only on a temporary basis.
