Netherlands offers condolences to Venezuela
Minister of Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans has offered condolences to the family of Hugo Chávez and to the people and government of Venezuela. A period of national mourning has been declared in Venezuela following the president’s death.
According to the Minister, relations with Venezuela are very important, partly because of its proximity to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Cultural, economic and historical ties between the Kingdom and Venezuela go back several centuries.
The funeral will take place on Friday 8 March in Caracas. Minister of State Hans van den Broek, Prime Minister Mike Eman of Aruba and Prime Minister Daniel Hodge of Curaçao will attend the ceremony on the Kingdom’s behalf.
