Netherlands to host international Cyberspace Conference in 2015

The Netherlands will host the fourth international Cyberspace Conference in 2015. This was announced on the final day of the third Cyberspace Conference in Seoul, South Korea. Previous conferences in the same series were held in London (2011) and Budapest (2012).

Cyber security is a growing challenge that requires not only a national, but also an international response. By hosting this conference, the Netherlands will be taking the lead in a field that affects everyone – both privately and at their jobs – every day. It offers the Netherlands a great opportunity to influence the international cyber agenda and strengthen our international position as a hub of expertise in digital technology.

The conference is being organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Security and Justice. The Government has asked former foreign minister Uri Rosenthal to serve as a special Dutch representative at the conference. In 2011, as foreign minister, Mr Rosenthal was responsible for the Freedom Online conference in the Netherlands, during which he learned a great deal about the field. Mr Rosenthal was also approached thanks to his wide international experience and network of contacts. He will combine his function as special representative with his other activities.
