Servicewoman awarded degree for Afghanistan thesis
Major Grandia defended her thesis successfully at the University of Leiden. Her thesis focuses on the decision-making that led to the deployment of the Netherlands armed forces in Afghanistan. Grandia examined the Netherlands’, as well as the United Kingdom’s, participation in the stabilisation mission in southern Afghanistan. Dutch coastguard aircraft flies for Frontex
The Netherlands has once more deployed a coastguard aircraft to Operation Triton, after receiving a request from Frontex, the European border control agency that lends support to EU member states. The Dutch coastguard aircraft is stationed in Sicily and has been patrolling the Mediterranean Sea since 1 April. It is operating under the instructions of the Italian authorities, with its deployment set to continue until the end of the month.
