Lower fees for travel documents

As of 1 January 2016, the fees for passports and identity cards for adults will be reduced by €2.67. This means municipalities may not charge more than €64.44 for issuing a new passport or more than €50.40 for an identity card. The Council of Ministers for the Kingdom approved a proposal to this end submitted by Minister for the Interior and Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk.

The fees for passports and identity cards for minors will not change, except in Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba. On these islands the fees for minors will be just over two dollars less than this year’s fees, and eight dollars less for adults.

Last year, the validity of new passports and identity cards for adults was extended from five to ten years.

The Council of Ministers for the Kingdom has agreed to submit the order in council for the Kingdom to the Council of State of the Kingdom for its advisory opinion.
