Minister Kaag to travel with innovative entrepreneurs and researchers to Silicon Valley and Atlanta

On 25 and 26 March Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sigrid Kaag will head to Silicon Valley with a delegation of 20 innovative Dutch businesses and knowledge institutions.

On 27 March Ms Kaag will open a new consulate-general in Atlanta and visit Fokker .

The main theme of the mission to the United States is innovation and digitalisation.

Innovative businesses in the Netherlands

In preparation for her trade mission, Ms Kaag is today visiting the Science Park in Amsterdam, where she will hear more about the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics and big data in the Netherlands.

She will be meeting experts from the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI), the University of Amsterdam, AHOLD and the startup Aiir Innovations. She will also be discussing the ethical aspects of AI and asking how it can contribute to a more inclusive world.

Dutch entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley

The innovation mission is an opportunity for Ms Kaag to introduce innovative businesses and knowledge institutions to key parties in Silicon Valley, combining economic diplomacy and knowledge diplomacy.

This will allow the Netherlands to continue to apply its technological advantage in a responsible manner with regard for people and society and, in particular, for social challenges such as the climate and digital inclusivity.

While there, Ms Kaag will launch the network platform Holland in the Valley and explore options for helping startups new to Silicon Valley.

In Silicon Valley Ms Kaag’s delegation will be visiting Adyen, a Dutch payments platform, and HMI, a subdivision of chip manufacturers ASML. Together with the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Ms Kaag will be organising a discussion on the future of digital trade and the balance between technological innovation and sustainable growth.

Together with Prince Constantijn, Special Envoy for StartupDelta2020, Ms Kaag will be exploring the challenges the public and private sectors face in ensuring that the digital economy remains open and inclusive.

Consulate-general in Atlanta

On Wednesday Ms Kaag will be opening a new consulate-general in Atlanta, which will focus on strengthening economic relations between the southeastern United States and the Netherlands. Trade and investment between the Netherlands and the region currently provides jobs for more than 78,000 people.
