Raymond Knops to take over temporarily as Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations
Kajsa Ollongren, Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, is transferring her tasks to other members of government until after the Christmas recess. Due to a medical complication, it is taking her longer than expected to recover from a sinus operation. Ms Ollongren will now be able to focus completely on her treatment and recuperation.
Raymond Knops, currently State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations, will take on the role of minister and take over several of Ms Ollongren’s portfolios. In addition to his current tasks as state secretary, he will be responsible for the portfolios democracy and governance, finance and the regions, building and energy, and the operation to reinforce buildings damaged by the earthquakes in Groningen. Mr Knops will also be responsible for the Central Government Service and the Senior Civil Service.
Wouter Koolmees, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, will assume Ms Ollongren’s role as deputy prime minister and perform all the tasks that go with this position. Minister of Defence Ank Bijleveld will also become Minister for the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). Stientje van Veldhoven is being appointed temporary Minister for the Environment and Housing and will be responsible for matters concerning housing, spatial planning and the Environment and Planning Act.
