78 patients deceased, 1019 new patients, a total of 7431 confirmed cases

Since yesterday, 1019 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the Netherlands to 7431. Among them are 2151 people who are or were admitted to hospital.

The number of patients admitted to hospital and the number of deceased patients are increasing less rapidly than would have been expected without measures in place. This could indicate that the measures taken are having an effect on how fast the virus is spreading. It will be possible to interpret these effects more clearly at the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

The area with the highest number of confirmed cases is the province of Noord-Brabant, where 2161 people tested positive. After that, the most confirmed cases were reported in Zuid-Holland (1042) and Noord-Holland (1029). The provinces of Friesland and Drenthe reported the fewest COVID-19 infections: 71 and 72 respectively.

Most of the deceased patients were in the age category of 80 – 84 years.

More data available on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus

RIVM is receiving more and more information on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. For example, the latest data from the National Intensive Care Evaluation (NICE) Foundation is now included in the reports. We provide a daily update on charts and reports in a PDF overview

The figures provided for the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the deaths due to COVID-19 are based on the reports received from the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs). There is a delay between the day on which a person dies and the day on which the death is reported. For that reason, the number of deceased patients reported per day may include deaths that occurred over the course of several days.
