Extra funds for nature conservation in the Caribbean Netherlands
Minister for Agriculture Dijksma has earmarked EUR 7.5 million for nature conservation in the Caribbean Netherlands. Uses of the funds will include conservation of coral reefs and increasing the accessibility of nature areas. This is expected to benefit the economy by attracting divers and walkers.
The Caribbean Netherlands nature policy plan 2013-2017 takes the approach that nature on the islands of Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire forms an integral part of society. The islands’ diverse nature is a key economic driver, and must therefore continue to be used sustainably so that it may continue to benefit the islanders now and in the future.
