Talks between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands
On July 4th 2018, the Netherlands’ Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sigrid Kaag received Sibusiso Moyo, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
Zimbabwe’s efforts to re-engage with the international community was discussed as the country is at a critical crossroads in time. The upcoming elections could mean a new start for the people of Zimbabwe. The Netherlands appreciates that Zimbabwe has welcomed a broad range of international organizations to observe elections.
The Netherlands welcomes the pledge by the government of Zimbabwe to organize peaceful, credible, inclusive and transparent elections. Political violence in all forms, including the threat of violence or denial of basic human rights, is unacceptable and must be investigated and prosecuted.
The Netherlands welcomes the intention of the Zimbabwean authorities to deliver the much-needed economic and political reforms to support job creation, a reliable business and investment climate and a legal framework that ensures the guarantee of human rights.
The Netherlands and Zimbabwe further discussed a range of bilateral issues. Both countries recognize that, given the right circumstances, there is potential for an increase in bilateral trade.
