Statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok on the summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un
Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok reacts on the Singapore summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un: ‘The meeting between Mr Trump and Mr Kim is definitely a step in the right direction. It is encouraging that in their joint statement the United States and North Korea mention complete denuclearisation and confidence-building measures.'
'This step has now been taken. We now must turn our attention to implementation. As we have seen in the past few decades, a solution for the region will not be achieved overnight. Together with its EU partners and fellow members of the UN Security Council, where it serves as chair of the UN Sanctions Committee on North Korea, the Netherlands has consistently pressed for a sustainable political solution for tensions on the Korean peninsula. The region stands to benefit from stability and security. The ultimate goal is complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation.’
