Foreign Minister Blok: ‘I look back on a successful visit to France’

Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok met in Paris with the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and the Minister for European Affairs, Nathalie Loiseau on Monday 9 July .

Mr Blok offered the follow assessment of his trip: ‘I can look back on a successful visit to France. My visit took place at a key moment: only last week the EU countries agreed to join forces to address the migration issue; as we speak, our British neighbours are enmeshed in the challenges of Brexit, and we are on the eve of a NATO summit in Brussels on addressing the security of Europe, in collaboration with our transatlantic allies. European challenges demand unity and a stable Europe which works for us. France and the Netherlands have long been partners for a safe and prosperous Europe, and we will remain so. My visit to Paris was also a useful opportunity to seek to foster mutual understanding in areas where our positions diverge, such as the European budget negotiations.’
