132 patients deceased, 1.104 new patients, a total of 10.866 confirmed cases

Since yesterday, 1.104  people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the Netherlands to 10.866. Among them are 3.483 people who are or were admitted to hospital.

For the first time, the number of confirmed cases has surpassed 10,000. Because not all confirmed cases can always be reported immediately, the reported cases may differ slightly from the actual situation. As has been reported over the past few days, the number of reported hospital admissions and the number of deceased patients appears to be increasing less rapidly than would be expected without measures in place. In a number of days, it can be concluded whether the number of hospital admissions and the number of deaths among reported patients is actually levelling off, and thus how well the measures are working.

More data available on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus

RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment   is receiving more and more information on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. For example, the latest data from the National Intensive Care Evaluation (NICE) Foundation is now included in the reports.

Each day about 100 new patients are admitted to intensive care (ICU). Because patients stay in the ICU for some time, the total number of patients in ICU in the Netherlands currently increases with approximately 80 patients per day.

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the deaths due to COVID-19 are based on the reports received from the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs). There is a delay between the day on which a person dies and the day on which the death is reported. For that reason, the number of deceased patients reported per day may include deaths that occurred over the course of several days.
