Road haulage clients liable for underpayment
Clients are also to become liable for underpayment in road haulage. An amendment to the Sham Employment Arrangements Act will allow employees to hold not only their own employer liable, but also other parties in the road haulage contract chain, including the end client, for the payment of outstanding wages.
The cabinet has adopted a bill to this effect submitted by the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, Lodewijk Assche,r and the Minister of Security and Justice, Ard van der Steur. This bill will ensure improved enforcement of employment conditions for road haulage employees and prevent unfair competition.
The cabinet has agreed to submit the bill to the Council of State for an advisory opinion. The bill and the advisory opinion will be published when they are presented to the House of Representatives.
