Minister Dijksma calls on Safety Board to study meat sector risks
Minister for Agriculture Dijksma has called on the Dutch Safety Board to carry out a study into risks in the meat sector. Minister Dijksma also wants a review of the public and private enforcement, control and quality systems. The study should also cover the way industry and the sector respond to these risks.
In a letter to the House of Representatives, Minister Dijksma stated that the Safety Board will decide on the precise focus of the study in the coming weeks.
Incidents in the meat sector
The meat sector has recently been affected by several incidents, such as products containing horsemeat mixed with beef without this being mentioned on the label and aflatoxin-infected maize found in cattle feed. Due to the magnitude and social and economic impact of these incidents, Minister Dijksma has decided to ask the Safety Board to study the risks in the meat chain.
