As a British national, can I continue to be seconded to the Netherlands for my UK-based employer after Brexit?

Under the Brexit agreement, you can continue to be seconded to the Netherlands during the transition period lasting until 31 December 2020.

After the transition period

Whether you can still be seconded after the transition period depends on the further agreements to be made between the EU and the UK. Negotiations on such agreements will begin after the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.

If the EU and the UK do not conclude a new agreement (no deal)

If the UK and the EU don't succeed in making new arrangements before the transition period ends, you can still complete any secondment that began before the end of this period.

After, your employer can extend your secondment on the basis of the legislation governing the secondment of non-EU national s. Secondments that begin after that date will also be governed by this legislation. You can find more information about working in the Netherlands on the website of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

If you wish to obtain right of residence in the Netherlands, you can apply for a residence permit. You must meet the same requirements as other UK nationals living in the Netherlands. For more information on right of residence, see the IND website.
