Will my EU driving licence still be valid in the United Kingdom after Brexit?
A transition period will be in place until 31 December 2020. During this period, all EU agreements and rules will continue to apply to the UK. So your driving licence will still be valid there.
After 31 December 2020 the situation may change, depending on the agreements made by the UK and the EU. These agreements will apply to Dutch nationals living in the UK. For Dutch people staying in the UK for a short period, the legislation on Dutch driving licences abroad will not change. Read more about driving on a Dutch driving licence abroad on this website.
If new agreements are made
During the transition period, the EU and the UK will hold negotiations on their future relationship. This may include making agreements on the validity of EU driving licences in the UK. The situation will become clearer in the course of 2020.
If no new agreements are made
If no new agreements are made, your EU driving licence will at some point cease to be valid if you live in the UK.
