Evaluation committee appointed under the Financial Supervision (Curaçao and St Maarten) Act

Following a proposal by the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Ronald Plasterk, the Council of Ministers for the Kingdom has approved the establishment of an evaluation committee under the Financial Supervision (Curaçao and St Maarten) Act. The committee will be tasked with assessing whether Curaçao and St Maarten meet the standards of the Act on a structural basis.

Under the Financial Supervision (Curaçao and St Maarten) Act, the Council of Ministers for the Kingdom must decide five years after the Act’s entry into force (10 October 2010) whether or not financial supervision of Curaçao and St Maarten can be lifted, either in full or in part. Before a decision is made, a committee must make an assessment of the situation.

The Council of Ministers for the Kingdom has decided to appoint the following members to the evaluation committee:

  • Mr Ron Gomes Casseres, chairman, from Curaçao;
  • Mr Reuben George Essed on behalf of St Maarten;
  • Mr Edelmiro Alejandro Seferina on behalf of Curaçao;
  • Mr Marcel Peter van Gastel on behalf of the Netherlands.

The committee will begin its tasks in April and present its recommendations to the Council of Ministers for the Kingdom after three months.
