Family members who are nationals of a non-EU country are in some cases exempt from the EU entry ban. They must still satisfy the standard conditions for entry. The following family members are exempt from the EU entry ban:
- the person you are married to (your spouse);
- the person you have a registered partnership with;
- your children and grandchildren and the children and grandchildren of your spouse or registered partner:
- if they are under 21;
- if they are 21 or over and are dependent on you. This is assessed on the basis of IND policy; more information about a Family member with different nationality is available on IND.nl;
- your parents and grandparents, and those of your spouse or registered partner, if they are dependent on you; Dependency is assessed on the basis of IND policy; more information about a Family member with different nationality is available on IND.nl;
- your unmarried partner with whom you have a long-term relationship.
- this partner's children and grandchildren if they are under 18.
Check the IND website for more information on what qualifies as a long-term relationship. You must be able to provide evidence such as a birth certificate or lease agreement.
Family members who are exempt from the EU entry ban may visit you for up to 90 days or for as long as their visa is valid. Check whether your family members need a short-stay visa.
If your family members want to stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days, they may first need to apply for an authorisation for temporary stay (MVV) or a regular residence permit.
