Customs intercept crocodiles
At Schiphol Airport, on Friday, 10 September 2010, Customs intercepted two suitcases with stuffed crocodiles from Surinam destined for China. Two suspects were arrested.
They found 13 stuffed crocodiles, 34 belts made of crocodile leather, two bags made of crocodile leather and seven fangs of felines. The goods came to light during an inspection of Customs. This inspection is an international action initiated in cooperation with Interpol. The action focused on reptiles and amphibians and has been carried out in approximately 40 participating countries.
The two suspects have been arrested by Customs on account of having violated the Dutch Flora and Fauna Act; they have been brought before the Public Prosecutor and handed over to the General Inspection Service (AID). The crocodiles and related products have been seized.
