Minister Van der Steur visiting the United States
Today, Minister Van der Steur is embarking on a two-day working visit to the United States (US). The minister will be holding introductory meetings with the American authorities concerning counterterrorism and cybersecurity. In addition, he will be participating in the routine semi-annual ministerial meetings between the European Union (EU) and the US in his capacity as the incoming EU President.
On the first day of his visit, Minister Van der Steur will be meeting with Ms Loretta Lynch, the Attorney General of the United States, and Mr Jeh Johnson, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, among other parties. During these meetings, they will discuss the fight against cybercrime, the evolution of the terrorist threat to the West, and the measures taken by e.g. the Netherlands, among other topics. Furthermore, he will also be meeting with Mr Michael Daniel, President Obama's Cybersecurity Coordinator at the White House. At that occasion, they will discuss the state of affairs and developments in cyberspace.
On the second day, Minister Van der Steur will participate in a meeting between the EU and the US chaired by Luxembourg and the European Commission, in his capacity as the incoming President of the Council. This routine semi-annual meeting serves to discuss the cooperation between the EU and the US in the areas of justice and home affairs.
