Legislative proposal for closing drug houses submitted to House of Representatives

The legislative proposal by Minister Blok (Security and Justice) for improving the approach to drug-related crime was submitted to the House of Representatives today.

In future, mayors will be authorised to close premises and residences after discovering items or substances which are clearly intended for producing or preparing drugs, such as specific equipment (drug laboratory, cocaine treatment lab), chemicals (APAAN, hydrochloric acid) and cutting tools. At present, closing premises is only possible in the event that drugs are discovered, sold or delivered there. Through the legislative proposal, Minister Blok aims to facilitate mayors in dealing effectively with drug-related problems. By closing such premises, authorities can prevent the future use of a location for criminal activities and consequently disrupt criminal operations.
