Timmermans in Slovakia

Timmermans travelled to Slovakia on 2 October to learn about the progress the country has made in implementing European legislation since joining the EU in 2004.

While there, Timmermans met with his Slovakian counterpart Ol’ga Algayerová and Deputy Prime Minister Dušan Čaplovič to discuss ways of deepening bilateral relations in various areas, including culture, the economy and development cooperation.

Timmermans also delivered a lecture at Comenius University in Bratislava on the Dutch experiences with the introduction of the euro and with the strengthening of regional cooperation with neighbours Germany and Belgium, the debate surrounding the EU reform treaty, and the importance of a joint European climate and energy policy.

In the evening Timmermans attended a special performance by the Nederlands Dans Theater II, in honour of the 60th birthday of its former artistic director, Jiří Kylián.
