Koenders supports Zoellick's policy

Development minister Bert Koenders has expressed his support for World Bank policy as outlined by the bank’s president, Robert Zoellick.

He did so in a speech to the World Bank’s annual meeting in Washington on Sunday. World Bank policy matches the Netherlands’ own policy priorities in areas like fragile states, the climate, and women.

Koenders also outlined the importance of the bank's efforts to strengthen ties with civil society and national legislatures. He pointed out that the bank faces major challenges and needs to decentralise to be closer to its clients and provide tailor-made solutions.

The current division of staff (70% in Washington en 30% 'in the field’) should be reversed in the next few years.
