Customs intercept 139 kilos of cocaine at Schiphol Airport

On 15 September 2010. Customs intercepted almost 140 kilos of cocaine during an inspection at Schiphol Airport. The narcotics were hidden in two luggage containers belonging to a flight from Dutch Saint Martin/Curacao.

A Customs officer inspected the luggage containers and his attention was drawn to the fact that the upper part of two luggage containers were hard to the feeling. Normally, it should be flexible. On further investigation, the Customs officer found transparent plastic bags in the fitted double ceiling. The cocaine turned out to be hidden in it.

The narcotics have been passed on to the Cargo Harc Team. This is a cooperative arrangement between Customs, the Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service (FIOD) and the Royal Netherlands Constabulary. They are presently handling the investigation.
