Customs intercept 622 dead sea horses at Schiphol
Last week Customs stopped and reported three travellers who had dead sea horses hidden in their suitcases.
The report will be sent to the National Public Prosecutor's Office for Financial, Economic and Environmental Offences. The travellers arrived on flights from Peru and were all in transit to China. During an inspection of the transfer luggage Customs found the dead sea horses in all three suitcases. The 622 dead sea horses were subsequently confiscated. Sea horses are a protected species and may not be traded. Customs are enforcing this prohibition.
