SRHR Partnership Fund
The government has formed seven partnerships with Dutch civil society organisations on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), with a special focus on young people. The partnerships will run from 2016 to 2020. €215 million is available under this SRHR Partnership Fund.
What is SRHR?
Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) means that everyone has a right to enjoyable and safe sex. It also means people should have the freedom to decide for themselves whether and when they want to have children. In many developing countries this is not always the case. That is why the Netherlands is committed to SRHR.
Focus of the SRHR Partnership Fund
The seven partnerships focus mainly on young people and sexual and reproductive rights. Adequate sex education for young people will help them make healthier sexual choices. The fund also aims to create more respect for the sexual and reproductive rights of people who are denied these rights.
SRHR partners
Each SRHR Partnership is an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BZ) and a Dutch civil society organisation. The seven organisations below have been selected for the 2016 to 2020 period:
- Aids Fonds
- Cordaid
- Plan Nederland
- Rutgers
- Save the Children
- Stichting Kinderpostzegels
- Terre des Hommes.
SRHR partnership themes
The partnerships focus on various themes, which include:
- combating HIV infection in key populations such as sex workers, injecting drug users and men who have sex with men;
- SRHR and young people;
- SRHR and young people in fragile states in Africa. This includes combating sexual violence against girls in conflict areas;
- female genital mutilation;
- teenage pregnancy;
- child marriage;
- child prostitution.
