What are the different parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands?

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is made up of 4 countries: the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and St Maarten. Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba have a special status modelled on that of a Dutch municipality.

Caribbean part of the Kingdom

The Caribbean part of the Kingdom consists of:

  • the countries of Aruba, Curaçao and St Maarten and
  • the 3 special municipalities of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba.

Caribbean Netherlands

The 3 special municipalities of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba are known as the Caribbean Netherlands.

Netherlands Antilles

The Netherlands Antilles ceased to exist on 10 October 2010. Aruba, Curaçao and St Maarten are independent countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
