Joint US-Dutch seminar on sustainability

The Dutch Embassy in the United States joined forces with several US organisations to hold a half-day seminar on creating more sustainable urban environments. The event was appropriately called Building Green, Planning Green, Living Green and took place during the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo 2010 in Chicago.

Renée Jones-Bos, Dutch ambassador to the United States and keynote speaker at the seminar, emphasised the importance of developing global solutions to global challenges to sustainability. The Dutch Embassy takes account of sustainability in all its operations, Ambassador Jones-Bos said, and will reduce its carbon footprint by 25% by the end of this year.

Dutch and American officials, architects and planners also shared their expertise on making living environments more sustainable. The US partner organisations that helped organise the event were the American Planning Association (APA), the Green Building Council and the American Embassy in The Hague, as well as Dutch representatives at Greenbuild Chicago.
