Dutch support for Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation

The Netherlands is contributing €400,000 to the conservation of the former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. This was announced by foreign minister Uri Rosenthal in response to a request from the Polish government and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation.

The money will go towards the Foundation’s Perpetual Fund. The annual interest generated by the Fund will cover maintenance and restoration of the camp.

Auschwitz, situated near the Polish town of Oświęcim, was the largest German concentration camp and has come to symbolise all the extermination and concentration camps built by the Nazis before and during the Second World War.
