Netherlands gives 100,000 euros for humanitarian aid to Colombia
The Netherlands is contributing 100,000 euros in humanitarian aid to Colombia to help the victims of heavy rainfall. The Red Cross will use the money to provide temporary shelter for displaced people, blankets, mosquito nets, food, water and medical care.
Colombia is suffering from floods, an effect of extreme rainfall caused by La Niña. More than 2 million people have been affected by the rain, floods and landslides, which have caused displacement, the loss of homes and land, the destruction of roads and other major economic damage. Several hundred people have died and dozens are still missing.
Besides emergency relief, the Dutch embassy also supports Colombia’s water sector, including a project on the management of river basins.
