Cabinet appoints members of the Advisory Committee on Issues of Public International Law

At the request of foreign minister Bert Koenders, the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Guido den Dekker, and the reappointment of Wouter Werner, as members of the Advisory Committee on Issues of Public International Law (CAVV).

Dr Guido R. den Dekker is a senior lawyer with the supreme court litigation department of the Hague law firm BarentsKrans. He will initially serve on the CAVV for a four-year period, and will contribute to the advisory reports it produces. Professor Wouter G. Werner is professor of public international law at VU University Amsterdam. He has been a member of the CAVV since 2006 and at the beginning of this year was appointed to chair the Committee.

The CAVV is an independent advisory body, advising the government and both houses of parliament on matters of international law. It deals with legal issues which centre on international law and the need for its further development. The Committee produces advisory reports at the request of the government or parliament, or on its own initiative. All the reports it produces are presented to the House of Representatives and the Senate of the States General.
