Chad bombings are an attack on us all
On Monday 15 June, 27 people were killed and numerous others were injured by two bomb attacks in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena. ‘These bombings aren’t just an attack on Chad. They are an attack on us all,’ said foreign minister Bert Koenders, responding to the news. ‘I strongly condemn these violent acts, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families.’ The minister has expressed his condolences to his Chadian counterpart.
Chad is an important regional player in the Sahel and West Africa. ‘Chad is active in the fight against terrorism in Mali and is working with its neighbour Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram in that country’s northeast,’ remarked Mr Koenders. ‘Chad makes a valuable contribution to stability in the region, for which it should be commended. I would encourage the country to continue doing so, undeterred by yesterday’s awful events
