Mental health care

More than 4 out of 10 people in the Netherlands experience mental health problems at some point in their lives. To help them, the Government of the Netherlands has set up a system of frontline support by GPs, and primary and secondary mental health care. Outpatient treatment is always preferred for people with more serious mental health problems. Admission – including involuntary admission – to a mental health institution must be a last resort.
